Millwall have appointed former Burton, Birmingham, Derby and Stoke boss Gary Rowett as their new manager following the surprise resignation of club legend Neil Harris at the start of this month.

Rowett will take charge of his first match against the Potters in a fixture which also sees Lee Gregory return to South Bermondsey for the first time since his summer departure.

Adam Barrett will therefore remain in caretaker charge for Tuesday evening's match against Cardiff, with the former Southend captain also expected to stay on as part of Rowett's backroom team.

Callum Davidson, a former Leicester City and Scotland defender, is expected to join as assistant manager.

The 45 year old's most recent managerial endeavour ended sourly as he was sacked by Stoke, but that was following a run of just three defeats in 17 Championship games - though there were concerns over the style of play for a team with such high aspirations in the second tier.

Rowett enjoyed his best spell as a manager at Burton, winning 44.4% of all matches - he has an overall win rate of 41.5% over 337 games in charge of four clubs.

The Brewers were twice defeated in successive play-off campaigns under the former Charlton defender, before a move to Birmingham saw him controversially sacked with the club in seventh place.

The Blues appointed Gianfranco Zola as his successor and finished the campaign in 19th, just two points above the relegation zone.

Three months after leaving St Andrews, Rowett took over at Derby - who finished 9th and 6th under his stewardship.

The Rams lost out to Fulham in the play-off semi-finals, before Rowett left Pride Park for the bet365 Stadium, a less successful time in his career.

Below is an idea into Rowett's philosophy and long term vision at clubs.
