For the 2019-20 season, the Millwall Supporters’ Club (MSC) are delighted to announce the renewal of a number of our existing partnership schemes that we have designed for all those who become full MSC members. For this article, we look at one of the partners of the MSC, Erith and Belvedere FC.
Erith and Belvedere F.C
Erith and Belvedere were established in 1922 as part of a restructure of Belvedere and District. This new club joined the Kent League in the 1922-23 season and were placed in Division One. The following season was one of success for Erith and Belvedere as the side progressed to the final of the FA Amateur Cup, but unfortunately they were defeated 3-0 to Clapton. Thee was a small consolation, however, as the Dere's went on to win the Kent Senior Cup.
Erith and Belvedere joined the Premier League of the London League in 1928-29. Their time in the London League was brief and by 1929-30, the first team returned to Division One of the Kent League. During World War II they played in the South-East Combination, winning the League and League Cup double and the Kent Senior Cup in 1941–42.
After the Second World War, Erith and Belvedere were victorious in the London Senior Cup in 1945 and were a founder member of the Corinthian League in 1945-46. The success continued for the Deres as they won the League's Memorial Shield in three consecutive years from 1947 and were league runners-up in the 1962-63 season. The Corinthian League disbanded at the end of this season and Erith and Belvedere joined the majority of teams in the league in forming the Athenian League.
1970-71 saw promotion to the Athenian League Premier and went on to be League Cup winners in the 1973-74 campaign. Erith & Belvedere were Division One champions in 1981–82, earning promotion to the Southern Division of the Southern League. They remained in the division until being moved to the Eastern Division in 1999. After several seasons of struggling, the club dropped back into the Kent League in 2005. In 2012–13 they were league champions; going into the final match they needed to win and better VCD Athletic's result by a margin of five goals. A 7–1 win secured the title and promotion to Division One North of the Isthmian League. However, the following season saw them finish bottom of the division, resulting in relegation back to the Kent League, now renamed the Southern Counties East League
The Deres have been successful in recent seasons and at the end of the 2018/19 season enjoyed promotion from the Southern Counties East Football League Division One and were winners of both the London Senior Trophy and Hospital Charity Cup. Full MSC members receive reduced entry to all home games for the Deres when the Lions are away and all under-14's are gained free entry.
