Fans' Thoughts - Harry Warren

June 12, 2019

2018-19 was a tough season for the Lions, both on and off the pitch.  There has been a lot said from the media, football experts and the club itself.  But what do you, the Millwall Fans think of the most recent campaign and what we can do going forward?  For this edition of Fans’ Thoughts, we sit down with Harry Warren, regular star of the Millwall podcast, Acthung Millwall and one quarter of the Real Millwall Fan Show.

I was disappointed [with how the season went] but a reality check which was needed I feel.  I thought we’d be a top ten side, but we lost Saville and never recovered until Thompson came back.  We look light in the middle so to stay up looking back was a brilliant result.

I think Neil Harris has to be given a lot of credit.  Every season we have improved up until last and I’ve seen people call for him to be sacked.  I think you’re clearly not remembering the dark Holloway and Lomas times!  He’s not the finished article, but he’s worked wonders with the resources that he has to work with and I trust him to build a squad to perform better next season.

I think the high was beating Everton and to beat the England number one three times on the night with that astonishing atmosphere was amazing.  The low was the Brighton game, I thought we’d done it again and were in another semi final, but in the end we probably did ourselves a favour ducking Man City.

Ben Thompson and Jake cooper were my players of the season.  Cooper is a premier league player and I think Thompson is too.  I don’t want to lose any player, but if we did I expect a lot of money for them.  Jed Wallace under performing was a surprise and I think it came from having to carry the sides creative flair on he’s own. He’ll be stronger next season.

[Players I'd like to see us sign] The Ipswich keeper was fantastic under Mick McCarthy and I also like Ramsdale who played at AFC Wimbledon on loan from Bournemouth.  We need a left winger and a striker, but I’d be lying if I said I knew who we needed we just need better quality going forward.

I’m sure the club wants better opponents [for pre-season] but I’m sure the policing issue comes up again and again!  Personally, I’d love a tour of Spain.

It depends on who we sign if we end up in trouble or not.  Sign no one - relegation battle.  If we get the recruitment right - between 15th and 10th.
