“I think it was fantastic and I couldn’t have asked for more from my team. We set out with a game plan and we knew it would be very difficult and credit to the girls because the game plan want to accord for large periods of the game.
You've got Lenny Priest, who’s a 17-year-old and Georgie [Giddings] who is a make-shift defender coming in from the centre of midfield and they have dealt with in my opinion the best striker in the world today. For 85 minutes we stopped them getting clear cut chances. Yes she got one of the goals, but other than that my defence were good. Like I’ve said, Arsenal are a fantastic club with internationals all over the pitch and I couldn’t have asked for more from my team today.
Every game this season we went into this game with a game plan, this is all about the development of the players. It was going to be difficult, but we just had to defend deep and if we got a chance to try and take it and for large spells it worked, so a credit to my team.
I’ve seen a couple of replies on social media [at the half time score] and I think a lot of people thought you made a mistake at half time seeing us 1-0 to the good! It’s not just about today I’ve been saying it in the last 2-3 games this team is now starting to grow and I said it in my programme notes this team has given me belief we can grow this season. What the plan is, I can’t tell you that, but our aim is to always give a good account of ourselves, make the fans proud to come and watch the Lionesses and I think in the last couple of games and especially tonight the girls have done that.
It’s phenomenal I’ve never seen a team where we can sit down and analyse each aspect of the game and then see them learning and then implement that in the next game. Every week we learn something new and they are then bringing this onto the pitch and we’re starting to defend well, making it difficult for teams to break us down. Now we want to work through the three thirds and focus on getting more goals.
We got to make sure we keep ticking over Christmas through training and some friendlies to prepare for Palace in the New Year.
The support these amazing fans give my girls is unreal and it spurs them on every tackle and pass they make and I’d like to wish them all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year."
