WHAT AN INCREDIBLE SEASON IT HAS BEEN!
Through some really tough times the Lionesses have done amazing and everyone associated with the club proud. The fact the title was reachable going into the final few games just shows how far this side have come. The side that used to finish bottom two every season and never really compete have given themselves a name this season.
After the weekend and midweek's results the Lionesses are left in 3rd with the gap now too far to catch Doncaster going into the final two games. A fight for second spot remains but this season has been thoroughly enjoyed and these last two games should be played with passion and pride and proud to wear the lion on the shirt.
A win on Sunday would see the title race go down to the final day of the season if Brighton manage to pick up 3 points, which is where Millwall travel on the final day of the season. Doncaster know 3 points and the title is their's meaning the final day will be a lot less stressful for them, That result would also secure Brighton's second spot who sit 4 points clear of Millwall.
Millwall come into this game after a tough 3-0 away loss to Sheffield. A long trip up north saw the Lionesses lose their second game of the season and it was the first time they were denied in front of goal. Sheffield also played Doncaster on Wednesday night where the league leaders came from behind to win 2-1. The advantage to Millwall being that they have had a week off to prepare for this game and haven't lost at home in over a year.
LAST TIME WE MET
1/10/17 Doncaster 2 Millwall 2
The Lionesses came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw at the keepmoat on the second game of the season. The hosts took an early 2 goal lead and seemed as if they would claim all 3 points. Despite that Charlie Devlin was on hand just before half time to curl her shot past the keeper and low into the far corner to half the deficit just before half time. Donny remained strong at the back but a long ball over the top in the final minutes was met by captain Ashlee Hincks who managed to stay cool and chip the ball past the on rushing keeper to send the ball into the net and secure the Lionesses a point.
LAST TIME OUT
6/5/18 Sheffield 3 Millwall 0
A day to forget about and move on for the Lionesses as a fast start by Sheffield saw them see off the Lionesses. Sheffield, the in form team at the moment would have fancied their chances on Sunday and started very brightly as they took an early two goal lead before making it 3 before half time. The hosts failed to add anymore but the damage had already been done as the Lionesses look onto Sunday now.
9/5/18 Sheffield 1 Doncaster 2
3 days after their success against Millwall it was clear the party hangover was still with Sheffield and couldn't see them over the line against a very good Doncaster side. Sheffield took the lead and were looking promising going forward however the quality of Doncaster showed as they fought back and grabbed an important win meaning that 3 more points will secure them the WSL 2 title.
So its the final home game of the season and a chance to close the gap on Brighton if they fail to win on Sunday and means it would set up a tasty game on the final day at Culver road.
