MATCH PREVIEW | Arsenal v Millwall Lionesses

February 18, 2018

 Time to get our revenge!

While the odds may be heavily stacked against Millwall to pull off a 5th round away win to WSL 1 side Arsenal, Any Millwall fan and some Arsenal fans will know that the Lionesses, a league below, have it in them to pull it off.

The two sides are doing well in their respected divisions and Millwall's form could help the Lionesses on Sunday. Arsenal will likely field a very strong side in order for them to avoid an upset and with the league a fair bit away now for them, the cup would prove to be a real good opportunity for Arsenal to claim some silverware this season.

The Lionesses made two signings from Arsenal in the summer, Rianna Dean who played for Arsenal's development side last season and impressed Lee Burch, signing a 1 year deal at the Lionesses and play her first season of first team football. The other signing is a very familiar face to the Lionesses. Charlie Devlin initially signed on loan from Arsenal for the spring series and after a very impressive run which saw her form a formidable partnership with Ella Rutherford. Charlie then put pen to paper on a permanent deal in the summer and has carried that form from the spring series into this season.

Lee Burch and his side know that they will have to be at their best Sunday but with a host of goals in the side, it will be a test of how well the Lionesses can stop Arsenal coming forward. Arsenal have the likes of Beth Mead, Danielle Carter and Jordan Nobbs in the side and it will be a real test of Millwall's character to see if they can hold off the Gunners.

The FA cup only ever has two reactions when the draw is made, Either ecstasy due to a big tie against a top side or a home tie against a low league side or the opposite which is more unimpressive which is the tie against a side in your league or a really far away tie against a lower league side.

A big tie against Arsenal will allow Millwall to really set the standards and should they overcome this Arsenal side, they would create some history for many years to come.

Aston Villa 0 Millwall 2 11/02/2018

A brace from Charlie Devlin saw off Aston Villa which saw Millwall Lionesses have to do some resolute defending at times. Millwall made it 16 unbeaten in the league and set a new WSL record... Imagine saying that would happen a couple of years ago.

Arsenal 4 Yeovil 0 11/02/2018

A brace from both Danielle Carter and Beth Mead saw off bottom of the league Yeovil to send them to 3rd in the league but still 8 points adrift from top spot. They haven't conceded in their last 4 games so will be tough to breakdown Sunday.

Millwall Lionesses 2 Arsenal 5 01/11/17

While the scoreline does not look that flattering if you was to ask anyone that had gone to the game they would tell you that for 75 minutes Millwall matched Arsenal in every aspect of the game. Ellie Mason and an absolute worldie from Ella Rutherford meant that with 15 minutes to go the score was 2-2. However the full time side had that extra bit in them in the final quarter of an hour and made the scoreline very flattering in their favour.

There is no hiding the type of damage that this Arsenal side could really cause going forward and under new management the test on Sunday is likely to be harder than the previous meeting between the two sides. However the MSC are very confident that the Lionesses willl do the club proud.

Joe Montemurro took in charge of Arsenal not long after the win against Millwall back at the start of November. He has got his team playing really well at the moment and one of the inform teams at the moment in the WSL 1 as they stride to cut the gap on the leaders.

Not many people out there won't have heard the name Jordan Nobbs. The England international is more than an asset to Arsenal. In the middle of the park Nobbs has great play going forward but is also able to get the job done at the back and support the defence.

It's the FA cup and anything is possible, The Lionesses have been terrific this year and no one will be writing them off as they look to add another win to this season is which has seen them surpass so many expectations.

A challenge it may be but the Lionesses are roaring with confidnece! Be the 12th person and help the Lionesses book a place in the quater finals.
