MATCH REPORT | Millwall Lionesses 4 Spurs 1

January 15, 2018

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'
And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive

Yeah... That's how it felt after the Lionesses pushed aside Spurs 4-1 to put themselves a point off of top spot. Goals from Amber Gaylor, Megan Wynne and a brace from sub Charlie Devlin really put a statement out to the rest of the league that the Lionesses are in this title race and no one will stop them.

There really is nothing better than a London derby and Millwall got straight off the mark when Amber Gaylor headed the ball past the Spurs keeper and into the net. A lead Millwall wernt used to but a goal that they knew would mean a lot in this match.

The first half was a very cagey affair with neither team having any real goal scoring opportunites other than afew mistakes in the Millwall defence allowing Spurs to become threatening and pose real danger on them. A goal was almost gifted to Sarah Wiltshire when Sarah Quantrill seem to have missed the ball allowing the striker to seemingly be able to shoot into an empty net! However Quantrill recovered well and got back to deny the striker sending it away for a corner.

Now that really was close but we were STAYING ALIIIIIIIVE!

Half time approached and MICHAEL AVERY stole the show, Hero Michael got the ball on top of the stand that had been there since early in the first half. Michael was very strategic and moved his selfie stick well keeping it balanced before achieving his dream.

The second half got underway and Sarah Wiltshire got a bit luckier than she did in the first half and a good team move from Tottenham allowed the striker to finish well and level it up for the visitors.

When you got it you got it. Simple. #CD10 may have just ruined her teammate Ella Rutherfords dream of goal of the season as she picked out an absolute peach putting Millwall in front. Charlie received the ball on the left before curling the ball into the top right hand corner with such precision and finesse and her so serious celebration gave off the "yeah I can do that blindfolded"

Charlie Devlin then got her 2nd and Millwalls 3rd when she was allowed to finish from fairly close range. Charlie only came on in the second half and seemed to have obilierated Tottenham's defence in the short space that she had been on. Charlie really does have the ability to step it up a gear and today she showed that.

Megan Wynne made it 4 a second before the ref blew for full time, the speedy winger broke through on the right hand side and was played through before putting the ball in the bottom far corner. Megan was outstanding today and caused danger going forward really putting a spark in the performance.

MSC POTM: Megan Wynne 9/10

Megan got the goal she deserved today after a  fantastic performance. Megans pace and work rate really put fear in the eyes of the Spurs back line, Megan created a lot of play going forward as well as tracking back and supporting the defence.
