A battle and a half.. The leader of the pack Lee Burch roared his team on as two goals from Ella Rutherford was enough to see off Sheffield and extend the unbeaten run in the league to 13.
WE MARCH ON!
Not so often do you get a Millwall side with so much talent, so much passion and aggression in one side. This Millwall side have it all, Sheffield could have easily scored in the final minutes but a resilient Millwall backline held them off and the Lionesses claimed yet another 3 points.
Ella Rutherford's brace was enough to see off the Yorkshire side after going a goal down from Sheffiled FC's Hannah Cain as thw inger broke free and finished into the bottom far hand corner.
The Lionesses were still getting over the Christmas brake and it showed for the first 25 minutes as Sheffiled look like they could end the unbeaten streak today...
UP STEP ELLA....
Ella Rutherford is in inspired form and we have got used to her playing so well. Her first goal came when the young forward picked up the ball just outside the box, Ella smashed the ball past the Sheffield keeper levelling it all up for the Lionesses. Then... oh no people she wasn't done, just like the Vikings she kept on battling on and hee second cam when Bonnie Horwod whipped the corner near post where Ella flicked the ball on with her head, seeing the head go past the keeper into the net! (It may have came off another player but Ella deserves the goal)
Sheffield who surprised many in all honesty put up a good fight but our fearless backline of Robey, Brooks, Alexander and Giddings were 'avin none of it. With tackles as hard as a punch to the face the Sheffield attack were unable to get close in the first half, having to use the wings to hit and hope in the box.
Half time approached, not the best Lionesses performance but we were on our way to a crucial 3 points. The second half got underway and Sheffield came out strong, causing the Lionesses problems straight from the off. Attacks coming down either side and through the middle, you feared they may get it level.
The ref's watch must have been broken as we played a lot of injury time that wasn't really necessary, Sheffield firing at goal! Clearances and blocks on the line. Saves by Quantrill, Sheffield were doing everything except out the ball in the back of the net. Lee and Lauren helping the players from the side lines maintain their focus and see the job out.
THE REFEREE BLOWS FOR FULL TIME!
A sigh of relief if anything else! If that game had gone on any longer Sheffield would of nicked it. The Lionesses make it 13 unbeaten in the league and the perfect start to 2018 carrying on their form from 2017.
2 goals and a solid performance from the forward. Ella is a consistent performer in Lee Burch's side and today showed her quality, two well taken goals and dangerous on the ball.
