MATCH PREVIEW | Millwall Lionesses v Reading Women

December 3, 2017

Written by:

Feels like its been ages since the last game, In all fairness it has been 2 weeks!

However the Lionesses are back and raring to go against an in form Reading side who could prove to be Millwall's toughest opposition this season so far. Reading play in the WSL 1 and sit 5th in the league, their only loss coming on the opening day of the season at home to Sunderland.

The Lionesses are out of the WSL cup already after winning 1 of the 3 games they have played in the group so far and the final match against Reading will be a chance for the players to prove themselves and make sure they are selected next weekend at home against Spurs.

After 2 weeks off Lee Burch has been able to assess his side and get them ready for the visit of Reading. Lots of players will be fighting to make sure they prove to Lee they should be in the squad for Sunday. 3 players who will be looking to get back in the fold:

Amber Gaylor, Amber has had her game time limited this season due to consistent performances from the likes of Mason in the midfield. Gaylor is physical in the midfield and can win a battle of strength against any of the opposition.

Jordan Butler, The former Charlton defender is keeping the likes of Leighanne Robe on her toes for that starting position. Jordan like Amber has seen her game time limited this season but when she has been called on, Jordan has been reliable at the back and helped out the Millwall defence allowing them to shut teams out.

Finally, Brionne Fowle, the young midfielder has played a few times for the Lionesses but has failed to maintain her spot in the team. Fowle has been reliable and played well in the 4-3 win over London Bees. With two games left in 2017, Brionne hopes to be on the starting line up for both.

New to the match previews is a look on the opposition...

The opposition don't need much of an introduction and neither does their key player Fara Williams. However don't underestimate the Lionesses who wont be tamed by the quality Reading carry.

Kelly Chambers is in charge of the Royals, steering the ship to hopefully what will be for them a successful season come the end of it. Kelly played for Reading in her playing days and captained the side in her playing time also. Kelly with her experience knows that Sunday will be a tough test but is hoping to get the best out of her players and see them top the group come full time.

Reading done arguably one of the best bit of business in the summer when they brought in England international Fara Williams from Arsenal. Fara will cause a real threat to the Lionesses, The midfielder can set up goals and score some herself making her a pain to keep an eye on.

Lionesses v Royals HEAD 2 HEAD

22/5/15 Reading 3 Millwall 0

29/7/15 Millwall 1 Reading 3

The final game in the WSL cup for the Lionesses for this season and arguably the hardest one... However the confidence in the bunch of girls right now is second to none and Reading need to make sure they are prepared for a taunting time down in south London. The Lionesses are a force at home and its going to take a great performance by Reading to stop the Lionesses. COME ON YOU LIONESSES

Get yourself down there this Sunday at St.Pauls sports ground. Cheap as anything and the football is superb!
