During the month of March, members of staff from Millwall Football Club, the Millwall Community Trust (MCT), players from the Millwall Lionesses, committee members of the Millwall Supporters’ Club (MSC) and some well-known supporters amongst the fan base will be taking part in a grueling month long challenge to raise funds for the superb MCT. Competing against a number of other football clubs across London, our Millwall Team will put on their running trainers, cycling shoes, swimming hats and trunks and hiking boots to get to the gargantuan target of 6,720 miles and make our way virtually across the continent in the Race to the Euros Virtual Challenge! Funds raised will go towards the MCT’s new bursary project, and their fantastic work over the years has helped the local community to provide sporting, education, social and healthy lifestyle opportunities.
Speaking on behalf of the MSC, committee member Teddy Bellamy said, “the work that the Community Trust has done over the years has been so beneficial and supportive for those in the local area when they needed it most. The current Covid-19 pandemic has massively impacted a lot of the funds and support that is normally provided by the Trust, so to be able to help out was a no-brainer. To be able to offer my time and efforts to help this cause is something I am really looking forward to.”
Millwall Lionesses’ Assistant Manager, and Player Liaision Officer, Alex Russell agreed with the sentiments from Teddy saying, “the link between Millwall Lionesses and the MCT has always been incredibly strong, none more so than in the last two seasons when the club has come under the full management of the Trust. Along with players and staff, I helped with a number of campaigns over Christmas to assist those in the surrounding regions on behalf of the Trust, so therefore I leapt at the chance to be able to participate in the challenge. I will do my upmost to virtually get us to our destination into Europe, and hopefully in front of a number of the other clubs taking part!”
We will providing progress reports throughout the challenge on our social media platforms to let you know how the team get on, but if you would like to donate or see more information, please visit https://www.millwallcommunity.org.uk/donate.
