JUSTICE FOR MILLWALL

The MSC have written the following letter to Millwall Chairman John Berylson to show our support in the fight against the FA Charges....

We would like to take this opportunity to be clear that all Millwall supporters are fully behind you and Andy as you fight the good fight against the charges brought against us by the F.A. We are as shocked and disappointed as you that we have all been affronted in this way and hopefully the investment of time and money being made will result in Justice For Millwall.

We understand that if our defence is not successful then there might easily be ramifications both for Millwall FC and for Millwall fans which must be avoided.

Therefore Millwall Supporters Club would like to make a small financial contribution to the legal costs incurred as a demonstration of our full support for the approach the club is taking and the stance of yourself and Andy.

Millwall and the Media

Following the events at Upton Park last month the MSC have been busy over the last couple of weeks responding to a wide range of media requests.

Committee members have taken part in TV, radio and newspaper interviews both here and abroad (coverage reaching as far as brazil!). From BBC's Football Focus, BBC News 24, Sky News, Channel 5 News, Radio 2 and Radio 5 Live, Talksport, Talkradioeurope to various Local and National Newspapers.

A letter of complaint has also been sent to the BBC following Victoria Derbyshire's Radio 5 Live show on 31st August which in the MSC's opinion was a completely unbalanced anti-milwall programme.

West Ham Ticket Allocation

Millwall Supporters Club understands that a further meeting is to take place to consider the ticket allocation for Millwall fans at Upton Park. The MSC condemns the intervention of the police and the reduced allocation permitted and has teamed up with the Football Supporters Federation to urge the relevant authorities to restore the away ticket allocation to the 3,000 agreed by both clubs.

With only 1,500 tickets available for the away section, the likelihood of many Millwall fans acquiring tickets for other parts of the ground will do nothing for the safety of the crowd at this match. It makes more sense to house the Lions support safely in the Centenary stand lower tier, as was planned by West Ham.

It is hoped that the representations made by Millwall FC, West Ham FC, MSC, the FSF and others will result in the allocation being restored to 3,000.

Bob Asprey, MSC Chairman, said "Hopefully, common sense will prevail. It is difficult to see how restricting the number to 1,500 will help in any way. We are accustomed to getting shocking treatment from police forces up and down the country but to get a decision like this from our own Metropolitan police is, to say the least, disappointing. In the event of disorder at Upton Park, it is Millwall FC and West Ham United FC who will have to live with the consequences of this. Meanwhile many Millwall fans will be denied the opportunity of witnessing this much anticipated and mouth watering cup tie."

Congratulations Neil

In recognition of his record breaking goalscoring achievement the MSC on behalf of the fans presented Neil Harris with a special award. Neil's goal at Crewe in the FA Cup 3rd Round took his tally to 112, relieving Teddy Sheringham of a share of the record.

Neil was presented the award before the Scunthorpe game at the end of January by: Bob Asprey (MSC Chairman), Peter Garston (FOTB), John "Grandad" Butler and Mark Holland (MSC).

Worldnet 2009 Vets Tournament

The MSC are looking to take a veterans team up to the prestigious Worldnet Tournament which features supporters team from all over the UK and takes place in Leeds on the 24-26th July 2009.

Although that is a long way off we need to know if we can find enough players over 30 years of age to field a squad before the team places disappear. Although at any one time we can field two players below 30 years old.

On the Saturday we will be placed in a group of 4 teams where we will play 3 round-robin 30 minute games. Come the Sunday it becomes straight knock-out.

We will also be taking the usual MSC football team squad up to the tournament which will play in regular Worldnet Cup alongside 63 other supporters team.

If you are interested in playing in the tournament please get in contact with Ian Toal either by sending an email to info@millwallsupportersclub.co.uk, or by calling 07895 022 325.

Flying the Flag!

As some of you may have noticed the Roaring Lion and the Flag of St George are once again flying proud over the Den.

This follows work by the FOTB in agreeing a compromise deal which has seen the MSC contribute 50% towards the funding of the new flags.

As you will see from the picture below our sponsors CYC have also funded their own flag.

Good news for MSC members

Join the MSC - Stay Quids-In

We have been attempting over a period of time to build some real value into MSC membership, to significantly increase the benefits for members.

Last season the return of the £2 discount for matchday tickets was a popular step forward but widely criticized for being unavailable on matchdays themselves. For this season we have been lobbying to improve on this and we're pleased to announce that for the forthcoming season, not only have we succeeded in getting the discount increased to £3, but it will be available up to 90 minutes before kick-off on matchdays. To facilitate this increased discount, MSC membership will increase to £12, but this can be completely recovered by attending just four home matches. There will be no matchday ticket price rises, indeed some are reducing. The club will confirm these later.

Benefits of MSC Membership include...

  • Big savings - buy your tickets up to 90 minutes before kick-off and claim your £3 discount
  • You can apply to buy tickets for away games
  • Priority purchase period for high demand games
  • 2008-9 Millwall Supporters Club Badge
  • Collect Teamcard loyalty points, and use then in the Club Shop
  • Monthly draw to win prizes that money can't buy, such as a VIP trip to the Millwall Training Ground.

Full details and a downloadable application form are available on the website now. Existing members will receive a mailshot within the next few days.

Extraordinary General Meeting - Statement

The past four years at Millwall have seen unparalleled turmoil in our club's history.

The decline from the FA Cup Final, UEFA Cup and competing at Championship level in 2004, to fighting relegation to the fourth division of English football this season has been painful for all Lions fans to endure.

Since the arrival of John Berylson as club chairman in 2007 however, there has been a prospect of real progress on and off of the pitch. To put it bluntly, his finance has kept our club alive - and for that we believe that all Millwall supporters should be grateful. Furthermore we believe that our club will make real progress with his backing.

The prospect of the upcoming EGM is destabilising and disruptive. We oppose any motion that seeks to constrain the board's ability to properly manage the company's business.

To this effect, we call upon all Millwall shareholders - whether large or small - to give their backing to the current board at this EGM.

We intend to do all that we can to unite Millwall fans and to campaign to reach the silent majority of our 43,000 small shareholders. It is possible that they will hold the future of our club in their hands.

Bob Asprey - Chair of the Millwall Supporters Club
Peter Garston - Fan Director at Millwall FC
Nick Hart - Chair of The Lions Trust.

GFL v JB

Graham Ferguson Lacey is again causing an unwelcome stir at Millwall FC, without even saying anything in public.

Lacey is currently the largest shareholder of Millwall PLC, but his actions suggest that he has no interest in the wellbeing of Millwall Football Club, only in the potential profits to be earned from property development in the locality of the Den. With or without a football club at its heart.

It is unhelpful that he has never stated his intentions, but does appear intent on doing battle with the board of Millwall PLC and chairman John Berylson in particular.

Obviously this is an unwelcome distraction from the business of the fight against relegation, which is where all the clubs energy and resources should be deployed.

John Berylson has again demonstrated his commitment to Millwall Football Club with another loan of £3m. The fans are fully behind him in the fights against relegation and against Graham Ferguson Lacey.

Regeneration Suggestions

Back in February we asked fans to provide us with suggestions on what they would like to see included when the club draw up their plans for the future regeneration of the area around the Den.

Following our consultation we've compiled a list of the most popular suggestions you put forward and these will be presented to the club at our meeting later this month.

Fan on the Board Election

The deadline for nominations for the upcoming Fan on the Board election has now passed. Millwall Supporters Club has received two applications, one from Peter Garston, the existing FOTB, plus one other.

After further consideration of the likely impact on his family and work, the new candidate has decided that he cannot commit, at the moment, the time needed to do the job successfully. Consequently he has withdrawn his nomination.

With no other nominations, Peter is elected for a further three years as set out in the FOTB Terms of Reference.

Congratulations to Peter, and Millwall Supporters Club looks forward to continuing to work together with him to represent the views of our supporters and ensure that the unprecedented influence of the fans at Millwall FC can be developed further.

MSC Chairman Bob Asprey said "Peter Garston has been widely praised by the fans for the way he has gone about the role of Fan on the Board, and what he has achieved on our behalf. He has also earned the respect of his fellow board members at Millwall FC. While it is disappointing not to have an election to provide a FOTB with the majority backing of the fans, I am sure that most supporters are happy to see Peter continuing his good work."

Message to supporters from Football Club Chairman

Following this meeting, John Beryleson (Football Club Chairman) has issued the following message to all Millwall supporters.

The MSC is regularly contacted to see if we can sell and find a good home for Millwall related items. Items ranging from old programme's to parking spaces!

Due to increasing volume of these requests, we have decided to set up a new section on this website called "Roaring Trade". Here you will find items we've been asked to try and sell to fellow Millwall fans

Regeneration Suggestions

For some time now, the club have been working towards plans to regenerate the area surrounding the club. Being a financially sensitive issue, they haven't been discussed with MSC or individual supporters.

We feel it is important that as an official supporter group that we consult with our members to see what you would like to see included in the regeneration plans and to take your ideas to the club.
