Latest News 23 February 2012 - Tam and Tommy Wilson on Lions Live Tam and Tommy Wilson join presenter Sam Brown and the boys from the MSC on Lions Live this Thursday between 7.00 and 9.00 pm direct from The Den. As usual we start off looking back on the past seven days which have seen two home defeats to Bolton and Middlesborough. This week we want your thoughts on the following: the tactics used by Kenny during these games; players being played out of position; and what positives can we take from Tuesday night's second half performance? In the first hour we are joined on the phone by last year's Player of The Season, and currently injured, Tamika Mkandawire. Unfortunately for Tam this season hasn't gone to plan with a serious knee injury that has required surgery. Tam will be giving us an update on his recuperation, so if you have any questions for him email them in to the show. The second hour will see us talking to former lion and Dockers Day star Tommy Wilson. Tommy will be looking back at the old days down Cold Blow Lane as well as Saturday's Dockers Day event. In addition to our special guests we have the usual features - Ted's 'Championship Choice' and Graeme's 'Who Are Ya?' This week's phone in competition prize is limited edition Lions Live merchandise - a polo shirt, beanie hat and gloves. For your chance to win make sure you listen and call Anne with the answer. Remember Lions Live is YOUR opportunity to have your say about anything Millwall so email, call or text the show with your views and opinions and take part! You can contact the show by phoning the studio on 0207 237 9272; texting 07895 022 325 or by emailing us. For those of you listening for the first time, you should go to the Lions Live Listen Now page and then follow the on-screen instructions. All the links will also work on Apple Products. 17 February 2012 - MSC Football Team has a Scottish Adventure The MSC Football Team had to make a long trek in the second round of the IFA UK Cup on the weekend of the home Southampton FA Cup match. We were drawn away to the winners of the West Ham versus Motherwell 1st Round match. We were hoping our rivals from East London would triumph as the logistics of a short trip across the Thames is a lot easier than a trip to the Glasgow suburbs! It would also have given us the chance of getting one over the Hammers as we more often than not do. The players of the MSC Football team were keen to make the trip but like most things work got in the way for a few boys who could not get the Friday off work. Most of the team travelled up on the Friday by minibus while three others either flew or took the train. Motherwell had already been scanning the local area for different pitches. We crossed Motherwell with them to go and visit a grass pitch that was covered in white which we were still going to use after the goal mouths had been treated and lines brushed but then were told that there had been a shift change at Ravenscraig and a different manager was now in charge at the Ravenscraig and the Motherwell guys had told them just how far we had travelled up. The leisure centre thankfully relented and it was game on but only after the Motherwell team set about clearing the lines and the 6 yard box of the ice! The rest of the pitch remained like an ice rink with the snow having been frozen on from the cold night. This made it very difficult for both teams and our best players struggled on the pitch as they were unable to turn on the ball easily and use their skill to beat players as they would normally. It was a fairly even first half with both sides failing to take the couple of chances they both had meaning it was evenly poised at 0-0. In the second half we unfortunately fell behind and our goalkeeper Harry Thorpe who was otherwise superb miss-kicked to the opposition player Andrew Mackenzie who took his chance and finished. Our heads did not go down though as our 15 year old striker Freddie Amor who was a real thorn in the side of the home team’s defence collected a pass from Tommy Blackmore and rifled home from the edge of the area just 1 minute later. Our defence was superb and goalkeeper Thorpe made amends saving one-on-one with the Motherwell strikers on a couple of occasions. Unfortunately though the pressure told as Motherwell scored the winner on 79 minutes as substitute Barry McKnight stole in to finish from 8 yards following a cut-back from the bye-line. We tried our best to get an equaliser but ultimately went down 2-1 but we were certainly proud of our efforts in the game against last season UK League winners on their own patch, especially given we only had a bare 11 starting players including a 15 year old and a 17 year old in addition to the three of us who made up the numbers on the sidelines. We were missing four regulars who might have made the difference to the result. After the game we were treated to great hospitality by the Motherwell boys who took us to their pub and had laid on loads of Scotch pies for us and complimentary tickets to the Motherwell versus St Johnstone game which gave us the opportunity to see their skipper, a certain Jody Morris net a screamer to equalise. Hopefully our paths will cross with Motherwell again in the future so we can show them some South London hospitality in return to their huge efforts and kindness in entertaining us so well up there 16 February 2012 - Lions Live Dockers Day Special Join presenter Sam Brown and the boys from the MSC between 7.00 and 9.00 pm tonight for this week's special Lions Live. Both football clubs and the MPS have been working closely together since August and have formed a strong partnership that aims to deliver an enjoyable afternoon of football for fans of both teams, whatever their age. The game between the two sides in 2009 was a testing occasion for all concerned and many of the lessons learned from that night have already been implemented. When the two teams met at The Den in September 2011, fans from both sides supported their teams in exactly the right way; with passion and noise but with respect for those around them. That helped to create an electric atmosphere inside and outside the stadium where the football was the main talking point afterwards. It is hoped that fans attending the return game at the Boleyn Ground will continue this positive development. To help deliver that, there will be a complete alcohol ban in the stadium and in all surrounding pubs and off-licenses. This ban complements the existing Designated Public Places Order (DPPO) already in place across the borough of Newham. While it is hoped and expected that fans will behave in a respectful manner both inside the stadium and in the surrounding areas, there will be a zero tolerance policy towards anybody who behaves in an inappropriate manner. There will be a large, noticeable MPS presence on duty to help ensure the safety of supporters and they will also deal with any inappropriate behaviour quickly and robustly. Anybody found acting in this way can expect lifetime bans from both clubs and prosecution to the full extent of the law. 2 February 2012 - Cas and Nethers on Lions Live Two very special guests in the form of Tony Cascarino and Stuart Nethercott join presenter Sam Brown and the boys from the MSC tonight on Lions Live between 7.00 and 9.00 pm. We start off the show looking back to Saturday's last minute draw against Southampton and Tuesday night's cold and poor performance against Watford. We then have the small matter of looking ahead to Saturday's trip across the river to West Ham. Not only are both our guests past fan favourites, but also still strong supporters of the club. The first hour will see us speaking to former striker Cas who will be talking about his time here and what he went on to achieve from it. The second hour sees our ex-captain Nethers joins us. Both these players love talking about their time here. Email in to the show with your favourite memory of them and any questions you may have. Michael explains: "While I was writing Family I was intrigued by the character of successful Millwall players. It got me thinking - are they the same type of people down the generations? Anyway, we've come up with a list of 70 players who are still with us. I reckon deserve to be regarded as Real Wall. Here's the twist - I want Millwall fans to decide which 30 I will interview, in depth, for the book. I will be doing a special section on those who are no longer with us ( Harry Cripps will be #1). If you fancy it, just give me your top ten, and I'll collate all the votes. You can send them to me by email, Twitter or you can click here to see the full list and vote online. I've already had nearly 300 replies ( we got it into the Southwark News last week.) and some interesting patterns are emerging". 24 November 2011 - Trevor Lee and Michael Calvin On Lions Live Tune in to Lions Live tonight from 7.00 to 9.00 pm and listen to discussions on all things Millwall with presenter Sam Brown and the boys from the MSC direct from The Den. This week we look back at Sunday's foggy lunchtime performance against Bristol City and ask what went wrong on the day with a team that previously had been playing so fluidly together. Once we have discussed this blip, we have the small matter of a visit down the road to our poorer cousins in Croydon which should certainly see us raise our game and collect yet another three points from them.
Our guests this week start off in the first hour with former Lion Trevor Lee. Trevor will be chatting to listeners about his time at The Den as well as the fantastic reception he got on the pitch from fans before the Bristol City game on Sunday. Please get in touch as Trevor would love to hear your memories of his playing days as well as to answer any questions you may have for him. The second half sees us chat to Millwall friend and 'Family' member Michael Calvin. As we all know Mike wrote the fantastic book which has seen him win sports literature prizes. Consequently the potential for disorder inside and outside the ground is increased by this decision. The MSC have urged Millwall FC to request further tickets from Palace but they have not been forthcoming. Whether it is Crystal Palace FC or the local police who pushed for this allocation, we believe it is a poor decision which will cost the club a significant sum of money and which increases the likelihood of disorder at this fixture. 10 November 2011 - On Lions Live Tonight Tune in to Lions Live tonight from 7.00 to 9.00 pm and listen to discussions on all things Millwall with presenter Sam Brown and the boys from the MSC direct from The Den.
